John Philip Newell at Ghost Ranch. Celtic Spirituality in a Native American Setting.
There is an essential harmony or essential relationship deep within the matter of the universe. Everything exists in relationship to everything else. This is part of the new consciousness we are being invited to wake up to.
All life is flowing, like a river. Differentiations arise from the river, and should be cherished while they exist. Then they resolve back into the flow at the end of life. How do we remember our unity in light of the many differentiations we see in life?
A Jewish friend told John Philip Newell of an important moment in his life as a child. At a Jewish boy's camp in the summer, they were told that the rabbi wanted to see the boys. He was a beloved rabbi, so the boys gladly came to see him. They found him standing in the river, rocking in one-pointed concentration. The boys joined him in the river. He said just one thing to them.
"The water we see flowing past us now will never flow past us again." He then returned to his rocking.
The boys joined him in the river and also began to rock in prayer. The boy fell asleep rocking, and the rabbi was holding him out of the water with one arm. When the boy awoke, he looked at the face of the rabbi and the rabbi smiled at him.
This boy, now a man, remembers this moment, the rabbi's face like an icon of the countenance of God. The ONE from whom we and all things come.
